The table below shows the monthly expenditure of an average Australian family in 1991 and 2001.
The table provides information about the monthly expenses and its allocation of an average Australian household in year 1999 and 2001.
In general, the expenses of an Australian family increased insignificantly from AUD 675 in 1991 to AUD 715 only in 2001. It can also be noted that these families are considerably spending most of their money on buying and acquiring unnecessary goods and services followed by foods, while they spend the least on transportation and clothing.
To start with, during 1991, an average Australian family undoubtedly spends more money on unimportant goods and services, using AUD 250 of their budget in a month, followed by food, consuming AUD 155. These expenditure increased slightly in 2001 where they used AUD 270 and AUD 160 of their money to support these goods and services as well as their food respectively. Similarly, the spending on housing and electricity and water bills increases but not that much. The former using AUD 95 in 1991 to AUD 100 in 2001 and the latter, paying AUD 75 in 1991 to AUD 120 in 2001.
The expenditure for transportation and clothing, in contrary, remained the need that consumes less of their monthly allocation. To be specific, they spend AUD 70 on transportation and AUD 30 on clothing in 1991. Eventually, expenditure on these two items decreased in 2001, wherein they spend AUD 45 and AUD 20 accordingly.
