The table demonstrates how many UK students obtained English language teacher training qualification in 2007/8 and 2008/9. Moreover, the proportion of men participating in these courses is presented.
On the one hand, the information of year 2007/8 shows that the total number of 32930 students have qualification degrees. The number of 23842 are women, and 8165 are men. TEFL degree has the most qualifiers than other degrees. In fact, 18460 female and 6870 male have obtained TEFL degree while 5382 female and 1295 male have gained Cambridge UCLES CELTA and other degrees. Therefore TEFL is the most popular degree among students. It should be noted that only 24.7 % of total qualifiers are men.
On the other hand, the information of the year 2008/9 shows that the total number of qualifiers is 32945, which is almost as same as the last year. The total number of women is slightly increased to 24324, but the total number of men is decreased to 7511, which is not remarkable. Furthermore, the number of 18446 female and 6545 male qualifiers have obtained the TEFL degree while other qualifiers completed others degree courses. Moreover, as mentioned, the number of men is lower than women, and it is decreased based on the last year. In fact, only 22.7 % of the total students are men in 2008/9.
In general, the total number of qualifiers is not changed much, but the number of women increased, and men decreased between these two years. Also, the TEFL degree is the most popular degree which most of the students preferred to gain that.
