The table reveals information on the proportion of national expenditure in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Turkey on three types of consumer items in 2002. Units are measured in percent (%).
From an overall perspective, there was a significant difference in the percentage of consumer goods that all countries spent most on was food, drinks and tobacco. Actually, the percentage of food, drink and tobacco appeared to be by far the highest one among the three selected groups. Nevertheless, the number of Leisure and education was found to be the lowest one, with under 5%.
Surprisingly, the percentage of food, drinks and tobacco in Turkey was consistently determined to be by far the largest one among the five chosen countries, with 32,14% which was followed by Ireland (28,91%) and Spain (18,8%). Conversely, Italy and Sweden seemed to be countries spent the lowest, with 16,36% and 15,77%, respectively. The number of Turkey spent on Leisure and education was found to be 4,35%, being significantly two times higher than that in Ireland (2.21%) and Spain (1,98%). Besides, Italy and Sweden spent 3,20% and 3,22%, in that order
It is interesting to note that the figure recorded clothing and footwear between 5,4% in Sweden and 9% in Italy . In countries with the remaining spent on clothing and footwear around 6,5%
