The graph shows information about how many female members of parliament in European countries over a twelve-year period between 2000 and 2012.
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that there were considerable upward trends in the number of female participants of the UK and France, while this data of Germany, Belgium and Italy remained stable over the period in question. Another interesting point is that UK started off with a lower figure than Germany in 2000, but in 2012, Uk had the highest number than the others.
Looking at the details, as regards France, the percentage started at 5% in 2000, then there was a slight increase to almost 10% after four years, at which point it rose dramatically to 20% until 2008. Then the figure leveled off, finishing at around 21%. If we look at the UK, the trend was similar. Having risen at nearly over 30% in 2004, this number then leveled off at 31% un til 2008. Consequently, there was an upward movement to around 39% in 2012.
By contrast, the percentage of female members remained stable in Germany, Belgium and Italy over the period. The data showed that the figure for these three countries started at 33%, 25%, 22% and finished at 37%, 32%, 25% respectively. In 2010, the number of female members of parliament was the same for both Germany and the UK.
