Essay topics:

You and your family are living in rented accommodation in an English speaking country. You are not satisfied with the condition of some of the furniture.

Write a letter to your landlord. In your letter

introduce yourself

explain what is wrong with the furniture

say what action you would like the landlord to take

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I hope this letter met you well. My name is John Smith. I am one of your tenants living in your building at 3 James Collins Street, Liverpool, Oxford. I am in fact, your newest tenant that moved into the apartment 4 on the second floor, two months ago.

I write to express my displeasure on the state of the furniture in the apartment. Generally, the ceiling (roof) virtually in every room, is leaking water everything it rains and considering we are at the peak of the rainy season, it is a nightmare anytime the cloud gathers. In addition, the kitchen sink and the accompanying shelves are falling apart. The same fate awaits the bathroom bathing tub, as cracks could be seen all over it.

I will appreciate if a global assessment of the state of the furniture in the apartment be conducted with the view of getting a vivid overview of the scope of repairs to be carried out.

Furthermore, I advise this exercise can be conducted within this quarter of the year when it is still raining so that all leakages, especially for the ceiling, will easily be identified, unlike during the dry season, when it will be difficult to identify all loopholes.

I look forward to a rapid and favorable response on this request.

Yours sincerely,

John Smith
