The graph shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries (USA, Sweden, Japan). Calibration is done in percentage.
What stands out from the line graph is that Sweden had a gradual surge in a century while the USA and Japan experienced many ups and downs. Japan had the lowest percentage initially and is predicted to have the highest population at the end by 2040.
Regarding to the USA, this country had more percentage of the elderly population(10%) than Sweden (7%), and Japan(5%) in 1940. After 20 years, the percentage of the USA and Sweden saw an imperceptible growth while Japan witnessed a slight fall. Again after 20 years, the population of Japan kept reducing while the USA and Sweden experienced a gradual boost.
From 1980 to 2000, the proporrtion of the elderly seemed to be stable for Sweden. In contrast, the USA's population stayed as it is till 2020. In these 20 years, Japan had a boost in population which will keep increasing till 2050. Sweden had a bit of abate in 2000-2020. In 2020-2040, the percentage will proliferate for the USA and Sweden.
