The given table provides the information of how many workers and factories are in England and Wales between 1851 and 1901.
Overall, in England and Wales, there was a downward trend seen in the number of total employees while the factory's quantities increased from 1851 to 1901. The number of men working in England and Wales generally was higher than that of women over the period of 6 years starting from 1851.
In 1851, the number of total workers stood at 477,100 and decreased about three times to 140,123 in 1871. Meanwhile, in the same period, the number of factories rose remarkably from 225 in 1851 to 622 in 1871. In the next three years, the number of employees decreased slightly to 105,000 in 1891 before the dramatic drop to 61,000 in 1901 while that of factories fluctuated around 700.
In terms of gender, the number of male workers decreased considerably from 287,100 in 1851 to 80,123 in 1871 before the slight decrease to 31,000 in 1901. There was the same trend witnessed in the figure for women which dropped dramatically from 190,000 in 1851 to 60,000 in 1871 before the fall to 30,000 in 1901.
