The diagram gives information about the process of making ethanol fuel from corn.
In general, there are eight steps in total, starting with harvesting corn from fields and ending with transporting ethanol fuel to the gas station. It can be seen that the production of corn-based ethanol is totally by hand.
At the beginning of the process, corn is collected from the field after storing it in a large warehouse. The next step is it takes approximately four hours to mill and cook harvested corn with water. Until corn is cooked, it then undergoes a process of fermentation which consumes 48 hours to complete.
After fermenting, the solid product is separated into the liquid, which is purified to get rid of water for the extraction of pure ethanol. After that, this process takes about 5 hours to finish, and the solid material ends up being a by-product of the process. Finally, this ethanol is stored for a set time before being transported to retailers, ready to be sold.
