Example Task 1
You are living in a University residence, and you have a problem with the high levels of noise from a new campus restaurant which is open late at night. Write a letter to the governor of the University. In your letter,
Complain about the situation
Say why this is a problem
And propose ways to reduce the noise
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing this letter with regard to noise, coming daily from the canteen, which is newly opened. Although I am pleased that we have this facility, the restaurant remains open up to mid night and therefore, there is a considerable amount of talking, shouting continuing up to 12.30 pm every night.
It causes us substantial disturbance because, at that time, we either try to sleep or else studying. As a result, neither we are able to focus on study or neither can sleep well. It makes us tired in the morning and interferes with our education progress too. In both ways, it is affecting us negatively.
I, therefore, want to suggest limiting the canteen’s timing 10 pm at the latest on weekend, leaving it open up to midnight on weekend. Also, I propose that we can put some signs reminding users to be considerate and keep the noise to an absolute minimum. These are straight forward ways, but highly valuable.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Kind Regards,
Manish
