The given table compares the modification of people who travelled to work by bicycle among 12 different areas of the UK in the two years 2001 and 2011.
In general, it is transparent that the number of cycling commuters went up in all the mentioned areas over the 10-year period. In which, both Inner and Outer London were the two areas that had the highest numbers of individuals cycling to work in 2001. Notwithstanding, in the next 11 years, the places that saw the most considerable increases in percentage were Inner London and Brighton and Hove.
In 2001, the numbers of UK commuters travelling to work by bicycle were most noticeable in London, around 43 thousand people in Inner London and nearly 34 thousand in Outer London. After 10 years, the numbers of residents cycling to work in Inner London jumped to over 106 thousand, an increase of 144%, whereas the figure for Outer London just saw a slight rise of nearly 16 thousand people, which was the lowest percentage change among 12 areas.
Bristol and Hove was the area that witnessed the second largest change in the number of people cycling to work. The figure for this area stood at around 3 thousand in 2001 and doubled to over 6600 in the following 10 years. The other 8 areas were recorded to have under 10 thousand people travelling to work by bicycle in both years given.
