Some people claim that public museums and art galleries will be no longer necessary because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. Do you agree or disagree?
It is thought by some people that the usage of computers will eliminate the necessity for people to visit public museums and art galleries to see objects and pieces of art relating to history. From my perspective, I totally disagree with this view.
Visiting a museum or gallery in person provides a unique and immersive experience that cannot be replicated by viewing images on a piece of technology. In other words, viewing an artwork or item enables viewers to fully comprehend its scale, texture, and materiality, as well as its historical and cultural context. In doing this, the audiences may learn some meaningful lessons. For example, a visit to Con Dao prison helps visitors better understand the hardships and crimes of war caused to the Vietnamese people, from which they will appreciate the peace they have today.
Furthermore, museums and galleries serve an important role in preserving and protecting cultural heritage. Without public institutions to gather, store, and show historical artifacts and works of art, there is a danger that these items would eventually be lost or destroyed. Therefore, by collecting and housing these artifacts in a controlled environment, institutions can protect them from this risk. Additionally, they can ensure that the objects are properly cared for and maintained, which can help extend their lifespan and prevent them from deteriorating over time.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that going to public museums and art galleries provides people with individual experiences and preserves cultural assets for future generations in a way that a computer cannot.
