advantages and disadvantages of using smart cars
The text discusses the advantages of using smart cars and by providing some information, explains why it holds such a notion. On the other hand, the professor goes against all the stated claims and by mentioning some contradictory explanations, states why she is against the author.
First, the text states that smart cars can prevent a noticeable number of accidents and save lives by this means. In contrast, the professor explains that even highly smart cars can get into accidents as well as humans. She also states that new technologies provide driving in more tight and compact situations which leads to more accidents. In this way, she explains why smart cars cannot save lives as the author claimed.
Second, as the text, smart cars by moving in faster speeds can decline traffic problems. The professor refutes this claim and explains that the history has shown that in more convenient driving conditions, people tend to drive more. As a result, increased number of the cars in high ways can create even more traffic, and they cannot take advantage of high speed driving.
Third, the author mentions that the items of smart cars last longer. It also mentions that these cars need less repair which means costing less for their owners. The professor casts doubt on this point. She claims that smart cars need lots of highly advanced tools to detect the location and destination of the other cars which will cost a lot. Besides that, sensors of these cars are too expensive which make even more expenses for their owners. We can also hear from her that when these cars need to be repaired, its cost will be more than normal cars. In this way she explains why smart cars do not decrease the total costs of driving.
