Chaco structures and their usage.

Essay topics:

Chaco structures and their usage.

The reading and the lecture are both about Chaco Canyon, which are settlements in the twelfth century A.D., famous for their "great houses" and their astonishing buildings. The author of the reading provides some theories about the buildings and their usage. The lecturer cast doubts on the claims made in the article. He disagrees with theories by providing some arguments.
First of all, the author claims that the Chaco structures was a place to live for hundreds of people. It is pointed out that the Chaco buildings are more similar to modern societies apartment buildings in which many people could live. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says it is impossible that many people lived insight of such buildings. He asserts that if the buildings was the place for living many people, there would be fireplaces for cooking and enough rooms. So based on his assumption the lecturer concludes it is not possible the buildings be “residential”.
Secondly, the author states there is another theory which explains that the Chaco buildings were a place to store food supplies. It is noted that the availability of crops and such supplies could be a compelling reason that the structure used as storing place. This theory is rebutted in the lecture. The lecturer insists that the evidence is not supported this idea. He mentions that a place for storing would have many traces which is not seen in Chaco structure.
Finally, the author provides an explanation in which that buildings were considered as a ceremonial center. He argues that findings have shown that people gathered together. The lecturer, on the other hand, says the evidence of this idea is not well-supported. He argues that the ceremonial center has some characteristic such as the availability of some materials like sands and stones which are not seen at Chaco buildings and the pots might use for meal.
