the methods proposed to solve the problem of declining frog populations

the methods proposed to solve the problem of declining frog populations. The reading and listening passage have a conflict of opinions about the methods proposed to solve the problem of declining frog populations. The writer believes those methods can help to address the problem, which is contradicted by the following lecture.

To begin with, the writer contends that the government should make the law that prohibits the farmers from using pesticides which is harmful to frogs near sensitive frog populations, which would contribute to a significant reduction of harm pesticides cause to frogs. However, the speaker proves this claim is indefensible by pointing out that it is both not economical and fair. If the farmers follow the strict law, they will go through a difficult situation and lose crops, and the loss may even be larger than the damage caused by insects.

Moreover, the author argues that antifungal medication and treatments that kill the fungus with heat should be applied on a large scale in order to protect sensitive frog populations from infection while the lecture views this issue from an opposite angle. In accordance with the professor, each frog needs to be treated individually so that it is extremely hard to apply treatments on a large scale. What's more, those treatments cannot prevent the offsprings, meaning that treatments should be taken again and again, which is both complex and expensive.

Finally, the passage states that better protection of key water habitats such as lakes and marshes will make a contribution to the recovering of many frog species. By contrast, under the professor, this claim does not hold water. It is said in the lecture that the real threat of the habitats is global warming. Protecting the water habitats from excessive water use and development is unlikely to solve the problem.
