Both author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the value of the zoo. While the reading passage lists three evidence to support its importance in the modern society, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information in the passage.
First of all, the article avers that the animals are treated as well as in their wildlife by the passionate animals lovers. On the contrary, the professor challenges the validity of this claim for the sake of one of many severe living condition examples in the zoos. As he states, two red pandas died because of the rat poison in one of the zoos. It is sole one of the many examples in this field. As a result, it illustrates the animals have not treated as pretty as the author assumed.
Next, the passage posits that the zoos have the educational purpose rather than the entertainment function. Meanwhile, the professor dismisses this assertion for the sake of the fact that the majority of the zoos keep a distinctive animal to attract the people's attention for their own benefits. In this situation, the zoo does not have the educational utility. Moreover, as the animals are shown based on the zookeepers’ ideas, zoos do not convey the accurate data about their living habit. Therefore, this understanding from the zoos is misleading.
Finally, the text mentions that the zoos have the vital role in the protection of the endangered species. In the contrast, the lecturer opposes this surmise. Based on his declaration, although this example demonstrates the success of the zoo in this field; all in all, they have a poor success in this supporting. As they cover a small amount of the species, the animals interbreed by their own family members and the birth defeat is continued among the generations. Thereby, the zoo is not as efficient as passage asserted.
