Pterosaurs
Recently, there has been a ton of debate as to Pterosaurs. More specifically, in regards to the passages, the writer puts forth the idea that some paleontologists believed that these animals were not able to fly. In the listening passage. the lecturer is quick to point out there are some serious flaws in the writer's claims. In fact, the professor believes Pterosaurs may have been able to fly, and addresses, in detail, the trouble with each point made in the reading text.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states that Pterosaurs like modern reptiles were cold-blooded, therefore they had a slow metabolism. Some professionals in the same field, however, stand in firm opposition to this claim. In the listening, for example, the professor states that because Pterosaurs had fur or they were hair-like that will make them warmblood animals. She goes on to say that they may have need a lot of energy as well.
One group of scholars, represented by the writer, think that their bones were very heavy to be able to fly. Of course, though, not all experts in this field believe this is accurate. Again, the speaker specifically addresses this point when she states that according to their anatomic features, their bones were actually hollow, which would have possibly allowed them to be able to fly at a low height at least.
Finally, the author wraps his argument by pointing that they could not have taken off from the ground, because considering from fossilized bones, their back legs, which are the ones responsible the most of the take-off, were very small and weak. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim by contending that some studies suggest that the claim above would not be a real issue, since unlike birds, Ptesoraurs used their four legs to take off.
To sum up. both the writer and professor hold conflicting views about the ability for Ptesoraurs to fly. It is clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
