remains of actual animal tissues in T.rex fossils
The reading and the lecture are both about remains of actual animal tissues in T.rex fossils which is a kind of dinosaurs. The author of the reading believes that there are some signs of actual tissues of the T.rex: blood vessels, red blood cells, and collagen matrix. However, the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made by the author. He thinks that this idea is not convincing.
First of all, the author points out that there are some channels in T.rex fossils. It is mentioned that the soft and flexible tissue which has been discovered in these channels would be a proof of soft tissues of dinosaurs. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that soft and flexible materials in bone hollows are not necessarily related to actual animal tissues. Living in channels of leg bones, bacteria produce some organic materials which are similar to soft tissue. Furthermore, he mentions that these substances are due to bacteria’s colonies.
Secondly, the author contends that microscopic examinations show some proofs of red blood cells in spheres of bones. The article notes that these spheres contain the iron which is the essential element of red blood cells for transiting oxygen. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that the iron available in fossils is not associated with red blood cells because there is no evidence of these cells. He elaborates on this by mentioning that researchers have not found any red blood cells in other primitive fossils.
Finally, the author states that collagens which are fibrous proteins have been found in fossils. The article establishes that finding these components which are in living bone tissue supports claims of actual tissue animals in bones of dinosaurs. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that researchers have never found collagens in fossils beyond 100 thousand years ago. He mentions that collagens have another resource. In fact, researchers who are investigated bones are origination of collagens.
