Sinosauropteryx fine lines

First of all, the author suggests that the fine lines did not belong to the dinosaur when they were alive but were formed when the animal died. It is mentioned that the animal skins became fibers after its death and then conserved as lines. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. She says that if that theory is valid, fine lines should have been found in other animal fossils in the same site as well. In fact, the well-preserved fossils of other animals allow for conclusion that the fine line were not fibers but feathers of the dinosaur.
Second, the writer contends that even in the case the fine lines are a part of the Sinosauropteryx's living organism, they might be frills instead of feathers. The professor, however, rebuts this point by asserting that there is a chemical disparity between frills and feather. The feathers have a kind of protein named keratin, which the frills do not have. A study by archeologists has shown that the lines excavated did have keratine in it, which proves that they are certainly feathers.
Finally, it is stated in the passage that the lines represent structures located along the backbone and tail of the dinosaur. The author establishes feathers in that location cannot perform its usual function such as flying or temperature regulation. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that feathers could be used for other functions as well. She puts forth the idea of display function, illustrated by the peacock using its long colorful feathered tail to attract other for mating. He elaborates on by mentioning that it is found that the feathers represented by the lines were colorful, supporting the idea that the structure was of display function
