Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific
points made in the reading about TED
Recently there has been a debate. More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer puts forth the idea that Turtle Excluder Device(TED) application is very useful and successful in reducing sea turtle death for three specific reason. In the listening passage, the lecturer is quick to point put that there are some serious flows in the authors claims. In fact, the professor believes that TED are a good invention but they are not perfect. She says that TED are not that effective as the author says.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states TED was specifically modeled to help sea turtle. He also adds that the mechanism of TED has a mechanical barrier in the middle of the net that prevents any animals which are bigger that ten centimeter. Some professionals in the same field, however, stand firm opposition to this claim. In the listening, for example, the professor states that turtles like longer head turtle are much smaller when compared to others are may get caught in it.
One group of scholars, represented by the writer, thinks that due to the Shrimp-Turtle Law it made sure fishermen use TED in their boats. He also highlights that there were specific organization which made sure that they are properly installed and maintained. Of course, though, not all experts in the field believe this is accurate. Again, the speaker specifically addresses this point when he states that it is not possible to monitor when they so far from the shore and even provides with an example that they remove the metal barrier from TED to reduce shrimp loss.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that America have tightly controls the import of shrimps. He asserts that all the ship must be certified user of TED-installed trawls. In the article it is also stated that absence of this certification will result in disapproval to sell their product. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with his claim by contending that the certification provided by the owners are fake Since different countries have different rules they tend to take advantage of that.
