The Sydney Opera House
Here the lecturer has spoken about the uniqueness of the Sydney Opera House, the concept of which was proposed by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect. She believes that the Opera House is an extraordinary beautiful and a blend of art and architecture, engineering and technology.
Firstly, in the passage it is stated that the roof was the revolutionary part of the design and prestressed concrete was used in building construction. The lecturer supports this when she tells that the advances in structural engineering and new materials used was an unique aspect of the Opera House.
Secondly, the passage also mentions about the computer technology used for making complex structural calculations and models that the architects needed. The woman agrees on this point and states that the Opera House was a high technical aspect of architect and engineers.
Apart from this, the lecturer also supports the point mentioned in the passage that Jorn Utzon was committed to organic principles. The woman thinks that the structure design fits in the surrounding environment.
Thus the lecturer has provided few examples and explanations to express his amusement and surprise at the uniqueness of Sydney Opera House.
