Both the reading passage and the lecture are about determining the actual use Chaco houses. The writer states three theory for actual use of these houses. However, the lecturer casts doubt onto the claims made but the writer, saying that his arguments have some problems when compered to real facts.

First, the writer claims that architecture style of Chaco indicates that a lot of resident have been living for years. However, professor states, this claim is not convincing. Inside of the these massive stone buildings refutes this claim. Inside of these houses, there are no fire room. Which is require for cooking.

Second, the author states that purpose of these house actually place for storing food. The professor refutes this point. He states, this claim is not true by evidence. Moreover, professor states if these houses were actually food store, why there are more maize on flood.

Third, the passage claims that people were used Chaco structures as special ceremonies center. On the other hand, the professor casts doubt onto this claim by stating this theory is not well supported. Furthermore, he states archaeologists also found large number of material. This finding suggest these materials were just trash so the pots are also only regular trash.
