The reading indicates that Chevalier de Seingalt’s long memoir does not have one hundred percentage accuracy and provides three reasons. On the other hand, the professor states that although we cannot say this memoir has the highest level accuracy, we can consider it as a reliable historical source and the professor refutes each of author's reasons.

First, the reading claims that base of this memoir Chevalier had parties and spent lots of money, but evidence indicated that he borrowed money and it conflicts with being such a rich person. However, the professor says that in business you have to let your money go and wait to gain more money and in that time Chevalier had to borrow money until his own money got back.

In addition, the reading says that Chevalier could not remember his conversation with famous writer Voltaire after so many years and depicted it in his memoir exactly. On the other hand, professor refers to Chevalier's roommate's status and says he each night after conversation took a note and looked back to them after so many years.

Finally, although the reading advocates that Chevalier could not escape from notorious prison on his own through ceiling and he probably took his friends help, the professor is of the conviction that other prisoner had more powerful friends than he did and refers to government's documents that shows after escaping they had to repair ceiling.
