Cane toads must be controlled by three methods
building a national fence
killing them
developing a disease-causing virus
The reading introduces some processes in order to stop the spread of cane toads in Australia and insists that these methods are useful. Nonetheless, the professor not only casts doubt on the methods mentioned by the author but also defends her hypothesis by three persuasive explanations. She thinks that these methods are unsuccessful and environmentally dangerous even though she accepts that getting rid of cane toads is not easy. The lecturer's perceptions, used to shed light on this controversial issue, are as the following.
First of all, the passage claims that constructing a national fence for preventing the toads' spread is a satisfactory idea. However, the educator overthrows this notion, mainly because she believes that this process will not stop young toads from spreding since they can commute through streams and rivers. Therefore, as rivers flow from one plcae to another, young toads, as well as their eggs, can stablish their population regardless of the fences.
Secondly, the author suggests that these toads can be killed voluntarily, but the professors completely disagrees with this idea insomuch as she declares young volunteers are mostly untrained and they may unintentionally destroy native frogs of Australia owing to the fact that they are pretty identical to cane toads especially the younger ones, and the volunteers cannot distinguish between them.
Third, the article upholds that developing a disease-causing virus would be useful for controling the cane toads' population. On the other hand, the teacher refutes this rationalization since she posits that this action will influence the ecosystem of the South America as a result of the fact that some reptiles are usually transformed between Australia and America. Accordingly, when these infected reptiles reach the America, their disease will attack king toads (native toads of The America) and devastate their situation. This action will damage their ecosystem as king toads, which are considered as a vital part of it, will be suffered from that virus.
