TPO-15 - Integrated Writing Task
Given the information in the text, Australia used cane toad to preserve their agricultural land against vermin. besides using the cane toad its population starts to grow rapidly and might cause several ecological problems no doubt. Hence Australia proposes three solutions to control toad population. However, the lecturer finds all the solutions dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First, Australia uses the same as managing rabbits population method for controlling toad population. they mention building a national fence idea to prevent toad's movement into places that cane toad has not colonized yet. Conversely, the professor brings up the idea that building the fence is not a feasible solution because young toads and their eggs are streamed in rivers and the fence is not able to prevent their transferring through the water.
Furthermore, using volunteer groups for collecting cane toad is the second solution which is presented by the reading passage. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that applying such volunteers that have a lack of information and cognition about cane toad appearance, might cause damage to miscellaneous kinds of amphibians.
Finally, the reading asserts that researchers have developed a biological virus to prevent the increasing cane toad population. with the method maturing and reproducing of the cane toad is affected and destroyed. Also, the virus does not have any effect on the other Australian species. On the contrary, the lecturer holds the view that although the virus does not have any effect on other Australian species it could cause transferring infected cane toad to America by pet collectors and consequently creating a terrible ecosystemic disaster there.
