The main idea of both the passage and the talk is about whether clay jars were used as electric batteries or not. Considering this, the author offers three points to indicate that the jars were not utilized as batteries. The professor, on the other hand, not only refutes the author's assessments, but also asserts that the announced option runs counter to the ways the reading just discussed. The lecturer demonstrates three reasons to reject the options in the reading.
The first criticism of the passage against which the lecture argues is that the absent of wires and electricity conductures shows that the jars were not used as batteries. As stated by the professor, the vessels were excavated by local people who were not trained enough to distinguish wires and conductors, and they may overlook or thrown away them.
Moreover, unlike the passage which suggest that the vessels are similar to the copper cylinders, which were discovered in the Seleucia. Due to the fact that copper cylinders were employed for holding scrolls, the vessels may be used for holding scrolls too, the professor illustrates that it is true that the similarity between copper cylinders and the vessels does not prove anything. Additionally, some scientists have found some iron things that prove that the copper cylinders may be used for another purposes like batteries.
Finally, the lecture contradicts the fallacy of the lecture that even if the vessels were used as batteries, they were not useful for ancient people due to the fact that on that time, there were not device that could use electricity, saying that the vessels produced mild shock when they were touched, and they were used to produce invisible power. Furthermore, ancient people may use the vessels as a source of magical power to heal diseases owing to the fact that modern world uses electricity so as to stimulate muscles. Therefore, it is possible that ancient doctors may employ the vessels to cure patients.
All in all, the professor maintains that the arguments in the reading is not convincing.
