The reading claims that the special pattern surrounding the Sinosauropteryx should not interpret as the feather. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some reasons to refute them all.
First, the author argues that this feather like pattern probably created because of the decomposing of the Sinosauropteryx`s skin. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubts on this idea by stating that the decomposition process for creating such structure do not observed in the other location of this volcanic site. Moreover, she states that the well condition of other fossils in this site can clearly depict that these feather like structures belongs to the Sinosauroptery and have not created after its death.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that if these structures belonged to this kind of dinosaurs, it could be another part of this animal such as its frills. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that the chemical compositions of feather are far different with the chemical compositions of frills. Feathers contain special proteins which scientists have recorded them in these feather like structures, so, they were definitely dinosaur’s feathers.
Finally, the reading asserts that these feather like structures locations clearly illuminates that they could not perform any of the important functions of feathers do such as cooling the animal’s body or help it to fly. On the contrary, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that feathers could be used for other important functions. For example, they could be utilized for attracting female animals. She, argues that the new researches show that these fathers was colorful, so, these were probably used for display behavior by this kind of dinosaurs.
