TPO 33-integrated writing task
According to the passage, there are three hyotheses which could explain the usage of the stone balls, founded in Scotland. But, there are several objections that the lecturer stated them.
They might be used to hunt animals by the people. If this was true, the surface of the stone balls would be damaged or the balls would be collapsed to many peices; Because, they were being throwed toward the prey but, the balls' surfaces have remained soft, without any damage sign. So, this viewpoint could not be valid.
It has been mentioned that the balls could be standard criteria for measuring weight, due to their equal size; As it was stated by the lecturer, they have the same size but, they have been made from different stone types which have variety of densities like sand or course aggregates; On the better word, two ball might have the same size but, with different weight. So, the second hypothesis is rejected.
The last one claims that the stone balls were used to social purposes; They were kinds of signs which implied to the social ranks of their owner. This idea, has been inferred from the elaberated designs which are on the balls' surfaces. By the way, people, specialy the reach, had been burried with their posessiones in the grave but, archaeologoists have not found any of the balls in the graves. So, the last ypothesis could not be true.
