TPO 41 - integrated writing

In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses that new restriction roles are unnecessary and also can have some negative results over the older regulation policy. While in the listening the professor casts doubt on what was presented in the text and believes that the new regulation policy definitely is required for handling and storing coal ash.

First of all, in the text, it is stated that the regulation program is already exist, such as liner-special material that has effectively preserved environment. However, the professor claims that the present policy only includes new sites, not old ash ponds. The old ash ponds are severe threats for the environment, because through them a lot of ashes can leak into the soil and underground water that can create serious damage to the environment.

In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that the new policy can cause public concern about buying recycling materials produced from coal. She says that another hazardous substance, for example, mercury has been more than 50 years that present under strict regulation. Nonetheless, people have bought the recycled materials of it without any concern.

Finally, in the text, it is stated that the stricter regulation rules lead to an increase in electricity cost. The professor subscribers that it is true that the new regulation would increase cost, For example, it can cause energy production cost rise to 50 billion dollars. Nevertheless, It leads to an average increase cost of 1 per cent cost for the consumers which it is not a remarkable cost for a healthier and pure environment.
