TPO-52. Integrated Writing Task. Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific points made in the reading passage.
The lecture and the reading are both about the idea to establishing colonies of humans in Asteroids. The author of the reading feels that are three possible explanations to support the idea for humans live in asteroids. The lecture, however, challenges the claims made by the author. He is of the opinion that these explanations are faulty.
To begin with, the article suggests that the low gravity is a good point to establishing colonies of humans in asteroids. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. He states that living in asteroids is harmful to human body. Also, he mentioned that the low gravity causes decrease of muscle and bone mass.
Secondly, the writer argues that an asteroid colony would be extremely profitable. Besides, the author believes that some asteroids are rich in valuable elements such as gold and platinum. In the other hand, the lecture rebuts this by mentioning that the cost and transport of these valuable elements are very expensive. As a result, he thinks that an asteroid would not be profitable.
Finally, the author posits that the asteroids are very easy to reach. Nevertheless, the lecture states that asteroids are not very easy to return to Earth. Hence, reach of the asteroid is not the problem.
In a nutshell, although the reading and the lecture are both of asteroids, the three main points made in the reading are effectively rejected by the lecture.
