Both the reading and the lecture talk about selling rare fossil to business companies. The reading states that selling the fossil to business companies has many disadvantages and side effect on scientists and on public. However, the lecture disagrees it claims that advantages of selling the fossil outweigh the disadvantages.
First, the reading states that scientists have less access to the fossil. For example, scientists missed the main cause of the extinction. However the lecture opposes this point. It claims that scientists are the most people who have access to fossil. For example, before any one put value on the fossil, the fossil must fist pass on the hand of the scientists. Further more; scientists make the examination and tests on the fossil.
Second, the reading states that the public have limited exposure to fossil. For example, public become less interesting in seeing fossil because fossil now are in the hand of business companies only and there are no access for the public. However, the lecture disagrees. It claims those publics nowadays have more exposure to the fossil. For example, due to the commercial access more schools and libraries are able to buy more fossil and display them to the public.
Third, the reading states that commercial fossil collector always destroy valuable important evidence. For example, the location were the fossil found has been destroyed. However the lecture disagrees. It claims that some fossil will not be discovered without the help of the commercial collector. For example, it is better to have many fossil discovered, even if we can not have all the discovered scientific evidence than having no or little fossil discovered.
