In this set of materials, both listening and reading passage discuses about solution to control the population of cane toad at the Australia. The passage states some specific methods like: national fence, volunteer activity to capture them, and using the disease-causing virus; however, the lecturer has contradicted view point toward this issues.
First, the passage maintains to national fence as a possible solution to prevent this species to spread among the Australia; however, the lecturer mentions to river or water ways, which make this barrier ineffective in some regain; in this condition young Cane or eggs of them easily can deliver by water and established new life in other environment.
Second, the lecture states that this Cane can easily be captured by simple traps or even by hands; thus, it seems a good idea to ask some volunteers for help. On the other hands, the professor provides an other aspects to this idea, which makes it invaluable, as she mentions this project causes other species which are native with the Australia`s nature to be endanger; like frogs.
Finally, the reading part provides an idea of usage of disease-causing viruses to control this species population as a decent idea. The lecturer mentions to other points of view, which opposes with this proposal. As she states using of virus is a dangerous idea, which makes ecological disasters in whole the world as this species captured by pet-collector or researchers and conveyed to the another area like America cause other species to be in danger.
