Twin Studies

Essay topics:

Twin Studies

Both the author of the passage and the professor are discussing Twin Studies.
The passage claims that monozygotic twins depict similar characters due to the fact that they share a hundred percent of their genetic patterns. The professor counters this claim by arguing that the fact that identical twins show the same behavior is not due to the gene, rather, it is due to the environment.
The author states that dizygotic twins differ from identical twins by the fact that the dizygotic twins have in common only fifty percent of their genetic makeup. This reinforces the author's argument that monozygotic twins are similar, for they have a higher percentage of genetic patterns in common. However, the professor illustrated that the reason why the first group of twin discussed differs from the second is that the environment where they grew up. The professor gave an example of parents who treat their identical twins as if they were one person. In fact, those parents expect their twin children to participate in similar activities and give them similar clothes and toys. This explains the similarity in the behaviors of identical twins. Their parents, who constitute their living environment, push them to have the same behavior by treating them as one person.
