the usage of great houses of Chaco canyon
The reading passage claims that the usage of great houses of Chaco canyon can be explained as residual purpose for three major important reasons; apartment building, storing food supplements and ceremonial center, however, the lecturer finds all of these ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First of all, the reading holds the idea that Chaco structures are clearly similar to recent Southwest societies apartments so it can be concluded that they are residential places. On the contrary, the lecturer opines that this similarity is just for the outside of the building but on the opposite side, the evidences of the inside part don't prove the idea. The lecturer believes that in residential theory, there should be more fire places for cooking of each family inside the houses, but there only around 10 so, the primary function can not be residency.
Moreover, the readding asserts that their function can be storing food supplements but on the other hand, the lecturer states that excavations don't support this idea as they couldn't trace containers and also there was no maze on the floor.
Finally, the reading brings this idea that one of the usages can be described as ceremonial center as some broken pots reveals gathering of a large number of people but on the opposite side, the lecturer declares that these broken pots can not support the idea of ceremony center, because they might be trash of construction tools that had been ran away or regular trash for meals.
To sum up, it is clear that the writer and the lecturer can not see each other in the same ground on this issue.
