In this set of material, the reading states that the pterosaurs were an ancient group of winged reptiles that lived alongside the dinosaurs and they had a long wingspan, however the reading brings three reasons that they could have not flight and then support them, but the professor finds all reasons dubious and provides some evidences to advocate this idea that the pterosaurs were flying. In fact the information the lecture provides contradicts the fact outlined in the reading passage.
First, the reading declares that the pterosaurs may have been cold-blooded like other modern reptiles, and since cold-blooded animals do not have high metabolism, so the pterosaurs did not have enough energy for flying, in contrast the professor claims that the pterosaurs had a dance hair covering like fur. Such a covering usually finds in warm-blooded animals, because they need to be warm in cold climate. As a result the pterosaurs were warm-blooded and they had enough energy for flying due to their high metabolism.
Second, the reading proposes that this reptile had high weight, so its wings was not able to tolerate its weight, in the contrary the lecture argues that despite of large body, the pterosaurs had a light weight. In fact their bones were hollow; consequently they did not have such a high weight.
Third, the author of reading contends that the animals that can fly like birds need to jump from their legs or run to obtain speed, however the pterosaurs must have had powerful muscles. Analyzing their bone revealed that their hind legs were small and weak to allow the pterosaurs to run fast, conversely the lecture expresses that there a big different between the pterosaurs and birds. The birds usually walk on ground with their hind legs, however the pterosaurs had four legs and they were using all of these legs for walking on the ground like some modern animals as bats, so they could gain speed for running and then flying.
