The reading and the lecture both discuss less work for employees in The United States. The employees want to do work four-day per week and have accepted to receive less salary. The professor refutes this suggestion and have some reasons.

According to the passage, less work increase company profits because the employees work at the best conditions and make fewer errors during the work. In contrast, the professor says that this decision not only increases the company profit but also decreases the profit. Therefore, they have to pay money for the training of the new employees and also pay the same money for medical costs, although the workers work less.

The reading poses that it reduces unemployment rates and opens several new opportunities job. The professor disagrees with this statement and says that the companies may not employ new workers and on the other hand, might be asked the old workers to work over time.

Finally, the employees have more time to spend with their family. The lecture mentions that the employees may do work a lot in the company and when they come back to the home, are tired. on the other hand, the companies will not risk to give promotion to the employees, whereas they work only four-day work there.
