Both the reading and lecture are about little ice age that occurred in 1350 until 19000CE. The reading provides three hypotheses as the reasons of this happening and then supports them. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. The professor finds all theories out of date and he believes that new discoveries have refuted all of these arguments.

First of all, the author of reading contends that a warm weather before this little ice age caused glaciers to melt; consequently a huge mass of fresh water entered to the Gulf Stream and the currents of this ocean modified Earth's climate. This point is challenged by the lecturer. The professor declares that nowadays due to new and worthwhile explorations, we know that this event had just effect on north of Europe and USA and southern parts of Earth like Africa and other places reminded without any influence.

Secondly, the article proposes that volcanic eruption may have affected in creating of this condition. It goes without saying that the dark clouds of eruption can block sunlight for a long time; subsequently, it can be a strong reason for shifting weather and cooling Earth. This point is rebutted by the professor. He points out that one of the most striking features of volcanic eruption is visual effect. He elaborates on this by mentioning that such a strange effect can change the color of snow (from white to gray) or it can cause sunlight to be observed colorful by people; however, such an odd circumstance has not been recorded or reported by people.

Finally, the reading of passage claims that in this period of time, the population of Erath had declined; hence, agriculture was in a low level and people did not try to cut down trees; as a result, the trees could absorb a huge number of carbon dioxide and reduce the temperature of our planet. On the other hand, the professor emphasizes that the reduction of population did not last for a long time. In next stage of this event, human beings and their population increased fast and again they start cutting down forests. In short this theory cannot have a long effect in this little ice age.
