Overall, as can be seen, coal was the main source in New Zealand to generate electricity, while nuclear energy did not use in this country. Another visible trend is that in Germany, nuclear source reached the highest point in 2010.
Looking at the detail in New Zealand, the proportion of coal was 56 units in 1980. The figure in 2010 was higher, nearly 3 times compared to in 1980, at 150 units. In the years 1980, hydro and natural gas accounted for 30 units. However, New Zealand witnessed a dramatic decline in natural gas, at only 2 units, and having the same percentage with petroleum in the next 30 years.
In terms of Germany, 28 units of coal and natural gas were made use of generating electricity in 1980, compared to 28 units of coal and 2 units of natural gas in the year 2010. The period from 1980 to 2010 experienced a significant growth in nuclear, from 20 units to 155 units. By contrast, the figures for hydro and petroleum fluctuated slightly.
