The table below gives information about the underground railway systems in six cities
The table compares the systems in six cities about age, size and the number of passengers who use them each year. Overall, it is obvious that the older systems serve more passengers than the newer systems.
The London system is the oldest system and opened in 1863 with 394 kilometres of route, so it is also the largest system. The second oldest system, in Paris, have size which is smaller than the size of the London system but the number of passengers in Paris is higher than in London. While the Tokyo underground has only 155 kilometres of route but the number of people who is served per year reaches 1927 million people, which is the tallest.
Three newer systems are in Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles. The Washington DC underground is the largest system with 126 kilometres, compared to only 11 kilometres and 28 kilometres for the Kyoto and Los Angeles systems. The Los Angeles network is the newest, having opened in 2001, while the Kyoto system is the smallest and serves only 45 million passengers each year.
