The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

The bar chart illustrates the figures for telephone calls’ duration in the UK, categorized in 3 different groups, between 1995 and 2002.

As it can be seen from the graph, over the period of 7 years, while the numbers of minutes of calls through mobiles calls as well as national and internal - fixed line experienced an upward trend, the pattern was only true for calls via local-fixed line until 1999, as the reversed trend was observed for the rest of the period. Also, despite the changes, it seems people still spent most time conversing through local-fixed lines in all the 8 years listed.

In 1995, more than 70 billion minutes were spent on local-fixed line, which was followed by less than 40 billion mark for the national and international counterparts. In contrast, the figure for mobile calls’ duration was significantly smaller, at around 3 billion. Over the next 4 years, there was an increase in call time for all 3 categories, with the number for local-fixed line peaking at 90 billion in 1999. Totally, callers spent additionally more than 10 billion minutes on national and international fixed line while mobile calls were still the least popular with only around 15 billion minutes.

However, while the popularity of local-fixed line declined steeply, as evident by the figure of 70 billion minutes in 2002, international and national calls grew to be longer before levelling off after 2001 at 60 billion minutes. The most remarkable rise was witnessed in the mobiles category. The figure rose dramatically before reaching its highest point at 45 billion minutes.
