Some people think that radio has been out of date, and there is no need to listen to the radio for entertainment and news. Do you agree or disagree?
With rapid transformation of technologies, many youngsters prefer the latest high-tech devices including smartphones and tablets to radio so as to acquire the daily need information. Some advocate that the role of radio is going to decline, while in my view, the significance of radio is irreplaceable no matter how powerful other latest devices are.
It is irrefutable that modern technological tools have several obvious benefits. The first consideration is that the internet can supply its surfers with pictures and videos whereas radio only provides its listeners with sound. CNN and BBC websites, for instance, helps readers have deeper understandings and vivid views about live events through their not only online articles but also embedded clips. Another reason is that television channels broadcasts a variety of well-devised shows with higher quality of sound than that of radio and images with high resolution, ranging from drama, comedy movies and cartoons which can attract different age groups.
However, I believe that radio still has several features that other media can never replace. The first merit is that radio can reach a wider range of audiences, especially people who are in remote areas and mountainous regions. In fact, radio signals can be transferred in a longer distance than other signals including mobile signals due to its physical characteristics. Another plus point is that many elderly people tend to use radio as a means of acquiring information and listening to music. In fact, many old people find it hard to make use of modern equipment including smartphones and tablets and thus, they are likely to stick to their old ways for entertainment and reading news via the usage of radio.
In conclusion, while I argue that there are great plus points of the internet and televisions, the importance of radio is also worth being acknowledged due to its undeniable benefits for users.
