The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
The line graph compares the changing consumption of water that employed in various sectors around the globe, whereas the use of water in Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo is revealed in the table below.
As shown from the information provided, water used for agricultural purpose was persistently in the dominant position from 500 km^3 in 1990 to a staggering 3000 km^3 in 2000. Meanwhile, standing at less than 100km^3 in 1990, the amount of water employed by people at factories and homes was practically identical prior to 1940. From the time onwards, a surge in requisition of water for industries was seen around the globe, overtaking its domestic counterpart. In 2000, with approximately 1200km^3, the volume of water used by industrial sites were tripled of that in worldwide household.
In respect to the figures of two selected countries, the population of Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo were 176 million and 5.2 million respectively. Likewise, the irrigated land owned by Brazil was 200 times of that of Democratic Republic of Congo. Noteworthy is the fact that a striking 359 m^3 was consumed by a citizen in Brazil, whereas a resident in Democratic Republic of Congo utilised a relatively insignificant amount of water at 8m^3.
Overall, the water consumption is greatly affected by agriculture and this notion could be supported by contrasting figures of these two countries.
