The diagram below shows how the power of water is used to generate electricity.
The provided diagram depicts the way by which electricity is harnessed from water power. As illustrated, four stages are required to produce hydroelectric energy.
In the beginning of the process, water flow is collected in a reservoir and passed through an intake structure into a dam in order to be raised to create falling water. In the second stage, the falling water is regulated and flowed down through a sluice gate to a turbine. The pressure water flow creates, triggers the turbine to spin which in turn activate a generator that is connected to it. Altogether the rotation of turbine and generator, causes the transformation of the potential water energy into hydroelectricity and the remaining water is released.
Finally, the newly produced current’s voltage is high, it is carried out by pylons to a substation transformer to reduce its voltage to 220-240 volts and after that it is supplied to different places.
In summary, it can be seen that the procedure begins with trapping water in the reservoir and ends with the transfer of the hydroelectric power to its various destination via transmission lines.
