Moai construction

Essay topics:

Moai construction

The article states that the construction of Moai is the leading reason of population’s extinction of Easter Island. It also provides three reasons to support the claim. However, the speaker explains that it is not the case a collapse of the island’s culture. He refutes each of reasons used in the reading.

To begin with, the passage insists that the population of Eastern Island moved the statues with tracks made of wood. Nevertheless, the lecturer contends this point by explaining that the people did not use tracks for transportation. Instead of tracks, ropes were applied. The people walked side to side and pulled the statues with ropes. In the lecture, it is said that trees are not needed for producing ropes.

What is more, the text reports that all woods were cut down by the people to make tracks to transport Moai. So, the reading says that people chopped the forests. Still, the listening asserts that the cause of missing all of the trees was rats. According to the speaker, first settlers took rats with themselves on the Island as a food source. Sometime after, those rats destroyed all the woods on Easter Island.

In addition, the article claims that the population of Eastern Island was declining when Europeans came to the Island. Nonetheless, the lecturer opposes this point by explaining that recent studies showed, that the peak of the population was observed in coming of Europeans. According to the speaker, the island was settled in two hundred AD instead of four hundred AD, so there was not enough time to develop the population of twenty thousand.
