hope you are doing well. First of all, I would like to wish you a belated happy birthday and would like to apologize for missing your birthday bash this year.
Actually, I had such a busy schedule last week due to an ongoing project for which I had to urgently travel to China and hence was not able to make it to your birthday party. I wanted to intimate you of this sudden engagement but as you know sometimes you are so much occupied with work that you forget your personal commitments.
