Essay topics:

Summarize the main points in the lecture, and then explain how they cast doubt on the ideas in the reading passage.

The reading and the lecture are both about emperor penguins, which are one of the most unique penguins in the world. The author of the reading believes that emperor penguins are monogamous, every year return to the same place and that they are not in danger. The lecturer refuses these theories about emperor penguins.

First of all, the author points out that emperor penguins are monogamous because they spent entire life with one partner and if they get lost they are using vocal calls to find each other. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that emperor penguins are not monogamous because they are changing their partners. Furthermore, he says that during breeding seasons they stay with one partner, but if they lost their partner then they are searching for another.

Secondly, the author contends that they return to the same locations each year that is called a rookery. The lecturer refuses this theory, he says that they can not locate and do not return to the same location every year.

Finally, the author states that emperor penguins are not in danger and are not protected under international law. Also, evidence stayed that populations are stable. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that they are in danger because of the sea level decreases and they must be protected.

In conclusion, the lecturer and the reading are both about emperor penguins and their populations. The professor effectively challenges the claims made in the article.
