The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
The shown chart illustrates the percentage of people who had been living in their own houses or in ranted ones between 1918 and 2011. Overall, in the first years it is obvious that the rate of households in owned accommodation is lower that the rate of the second categry, but this fact changed in 1971 when they were the same. After this year the higher category decreased and the other incresead dramatically.
The most strikinf detail is the fact that in 1918 the percentage of individuals who afforded to own a house was just 20% while the number of who rented their home was almost 80%. it it clear that during the years something in the economy of England and Wales changed, because over the time both presented categories rose and decreased in order to be equal in 1971 with the percentage of 50%. However, in the last presented year the one which was higher had a downwand of around 40% while the number of people who could own their property raised to 60%.
In conclusion, as it can be seen in the image, in the modern society it became easier to own you house than in the past.
