zoos role and endangered species
The article states that zoos are essential and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor thinks that there are problems with the author’s arguments. The professor does not believe that zoos are essential for the society and he refutes each of the passage’s reasons.
First, the reading states that animals are treated well in the zoos because most of the zookeepers are animal lovers. However, the lecturer rejects this claim by pointing out that animals are not treated well what it seems. He gives the example of two red pendas, which were died due to exposure of rat poison and it raises the question about animal safety in zoo.
Second, the article claims that zoos are not used as a form of entertainment, rather nowadays zoos are considered as media of education. However, the professor states that zoos are still seen as merely as a form of entertainment. He also thinks that zoos give the message that animals can be used for our own purposes. Furthermore, he also thinks that in spite of some zoo’s endeavor to teach us, the results ends into vain because animals exhibits misleading behavior.
Finally, the reading claims that zoos are useful for preserving endangered species. The professor says that this claim is problematic. He explains that though there are some exceptions but over all the success rate zoos for saving the endangered species is poor, which cast doubt about the reading’s claim. Also he states that due to breed within their family members, the species give defective birth.
