The reading and the listening passage have a debate if fossil included a fine lines around the skeletal bones of Sinoosauropteryx are related to feathers or not. The writer puts forward 3 main hypotheses, which are refuted by following speaker.

Firstly, the writer suggests that The pattern of fine lines may not be related to feather of Sinosauropteryx; because some other parts of them such as their skins maigh have decomposed into fibers and became remained as lines in the volcanic ash. While, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to professor, decomposition of skin into fibers can not take place in fossil, As a result, these events may due to other functional parts of them.

The second preposition has offered by the writer is that the researchers believe there is not any evidence which explains the lines are defiantly related to dinosaures. They may have been a part of their frills structures. However the speaker casts doubt on this assumption by saying that study of chemical composition of these marks shows beta-caroten that is observable only in feather structure and not other parts of their structure.

Last, the writer supposes that the feathers help animals for flying or controlling their body temperature, while these functions are not applicable for dinousoures. On contrary, the speaker holds an opposite view. The professor explains that feathers have some other function in some birds such as being colorful and attracting mat. So, their may be used for this kind of goals.

Overall, the ideas mentioned in the listening passage opposes the ideas in the reading passage in that the observed fine lines may represent feathers in Sinosauropteryx.
