The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport. . Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the goods transportation in the UK by four different modes from 1974 to 2002.

At first glance, it was evident that most of the goods were transported by road in this aforesaid period. In 1974, it was around 70 million tonnes then it had been increased dramatically and reach a peak at almost 100 million tonnes in 2002. The usage of the pipeline was the least. In 1974, only 5 million tonnes of goods were transported by pipeline. Furthermore, it had surged gradually since 1978.

As can be seen, both water and rail had met the same million tonnes of goods in 1978. In addition, the transportation of water had suddenly grown between 1978 and 1982. However, it had remained steady and shown a downward trend in 1911. Moreover, there was an obvious fluctuation in the rail mode. it had reached the lowest point in 1994 and the highest point in 2002.

To sum up, the usage of road transportation was the most in this 28-year period. Every of the transportation had enhanced, expect the rail.
