The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
The bar chart illustrates the settlement status of people in England and Wales between 1918 to 2011 in terms of housing ownership.
Overall, the housing trend seems to completely alter in the given period with constantly decline in the population living in rented accommodation and increase in people living in own residence.
Firstly, in early years around 1918, majority of citizens just below 80 percent in England and Wales were found to be accommodating in rented settlements while just above 20 percent of the households residing in owned residence. There is a constant drop among the rented households in contrast to gradual increment of the personal settlements, arriving at an equilibrium in 1971.
In stark contrast to early years, the trend seems to further expand in coming years with about 70 percent household with private accommodation and lowest rental households at 30 percent in 2001.Finally, the slight decrease with little above 60 percent and just below 40 percent of the people managing their accommodation privately and renting respectively.
